As part of activities marking the 2025 United Nations World Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims, we launched a school cycling mobility programme in partnership with the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB) to improve road safety and transportation access for secondary school students.
The initiative, Cycle-to-School-Plus (C2S+), was flagged off at Government Technical College, Ikotun, with the commissioning and first-phase distribution of 500 bicycles to selected government-owned schools in Lagos. This marks the beginning of a long-term cycling and mobility empowerment project.
Through C2S+, we are promoting safe commuting, discipline, and transportation equity. Beneficiaries are selected through structured route mapping, screening, and road-risk assessments, and students are trained and monitored on safe riding practices. The bicycles remain school-owned and are passed on to new students after graduation.
Beyond mobility, the programme supports skills development. In collaboration with LASTVEB, we are introducing training in bicycle engineering, repairs, and road safety, aligning with technical education and future vocational opportunities.
The event also featured a road safety video skit competition, with Community Junior Grammar School emerging winner and receiving a ₦100,000 cash prize and safety materials.
With more schools already mapped for the next phase in Alimosho, C2S+ stands as our tribute to lives lost in road crashes and a practical step toward safer, more affordable, and responsible school commuting across Lagos.
