GRAE Foundation Marks This Year's UN Global Road Safety Week 2026

From the 8th to the 12th of May 2026, GRAE Foundation joined the global movement to mark this year's United Nations Global Road Safety Week, themed "Make Walking and Cycling Safe."

Over five days, our team engaged in community photography challenges, a live briefing on the UN Decade of Action on Road Safety, and a Road Show around the Majiyagbe-Ipaja environment.

The week closed with the distribution of bicycles to our Cycle-2-School Lagos beneficiaries, students across three local schools: Ipaja Junior College, Community Senior Grammar School, and Community Grammar School, all in Majiyagbe Layout. A symbolic step toward safer, more accessible education.

We were honoured by the support of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, facilitated by Nehemiah Protege, and specifically by the presence of the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, represented at the event by Dr Idowu Oyetola. This collaboration is a reminder that when government and the private sector unite, real change happens.

Special thanks to our principal partners: Re-Cycle Bikes to Africa for the donation of bicycles, and Mrs Dolapo Dennison, President of the Ratel Movement UK, for providing essential helmets and hi-vis gear. To the Majiyagbe Community leadership and our dynamic volunteer team, thank you for making this vision a reality.

To the parents: these bicycles are not just giveaways. They are community assets, supervised by our schools, designed to empower generations of students to come.

This is a reminder that road safety and education access are deeply connected, and that doing good, together, is how we make walking and cycling safe for everyone.
